Environmental Remediation Management – Anniston Alabama

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the City of Oxford worked jointly to construct drainage improvements for Snow Street in an area proximate to Snow Creek in Oxford, Alabama. A portion of the work was conducted within the Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) impacted 100-year floodplain of Snow Creek.  All work was completed under EPA oversight.

Scope of Work

Genesis Project personnel met with representatives from ALDOT, The City of Oxford and Alabama Gas Company (ALAGASCO) to discuss the locations and sequence of work.  The remediation consisted of soil excavated for relocated gas lines, horizontal direction drilling (HDD) pit locations, reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) installation, relocated water supply lines and additional storm water inlet locations.  Genesis Project obtained a HAZWOPER 40-hour trained construction subcontractor to perform all excavation and backfill activities.

Daily tasks included tailgate safety meetings, excavation oversight and depth verifications, excavated soil tracking, photo documentation, daily field note documentation, updating the city engineer of progress and interacting with the EPA oversight representative.

Results

Today, this project is complete and has significantly improved the function of the storm water drainage system and infrastructure along Snow Street in Oxford, Alabama.
